OCTOBER 9 – 16, 2021

This is a two week retreat and we encourage you to have the full experience, however we understand your life commitments so its also available for one week only.

There is a certain openness of mind, both lucid and profound, in which we can see ourselves with genuine clarity, a space in which we are opened and exposed, but held with deep warmth and understanding. This is the space of authentic yoga. In this space, we are quickened by a profound energy, one that dissolves our ideas about ourselves and awakens us to the elegance and simplicity of being who we are—not who we think we are, or imagine ourselves to be, but who we are anyway, beneath the projections of our minds.

Into the Open, a unique Mallorcan retreat, is about opening this space, and allowing the creative forces to move, outside the limiting patterns of our thoughts. As we open our bodies and minds to these forces, they guide us with their own intelligence, leading us through our yogic rituals (sometimes in unexpected ways) to express the natural openness of consciousness. To follow these forces wherever they lead is to immerse ourselves in the living spirit of yoga.

This retreat will involve morning Mysore-style asana practices followed by gentle sessions of pranayama and meditation, along with a series of late-morning workshops and explorations lovingly designed to illumine our theme. Most importantly, it will involve the devotional opening of a shared space in which the spirit of yoga can breathe.

Director of the Yoga Workshop - Boulder, Colorado

Ty Landrum is the director of the Yoga Workshop in Boulder, Colorado. He teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as he learned it from his teachers, Mary Taylor and Richard Freeman.

Ty has been an Ashtanga practitioner since 2005. He was introduced to the method by Jennifer Elliott at Ashtanga Yoga Charlottesville, where he practiced for seven years. In 2012, after completing a doctoral degree in Philosophy from the University of Virginia, Ty moved to Boulder to study with Mary and Richard. Since then, under their guidance, he has learned some unspeakably wonderful things about the art of yoga.

In 2015, Mary and Richard asked Ty and his wife Shayan to assume ownership of their studio and to teach the Ashtanga method as they have taught it for so many years. Ty and Shayan are honored to continue the thread of the Ashtanga tradition at the Yoga Workshop, and to share the brilliance of yoga with anyone who wants to learn.

This intensive will be held in a beautiful antique finca in Campo, in an atmosphere of exceptional quiet and seclusion.  The finca is easy to reach, only 25 minutes by car from the International Airport of Palma (PMI) which receives direct flights from all over Europe throughout the summer months.  The finca has spacious and fully appointed rooms, with a variety of different sleeping arrangements to insure your complete comfort.

The retreat will be orchestrated by Pilar de Miguel, founder and director of Balearic Retreats.  As a Mallorca native and devoted Ashtangini, Pilar has developed a reputation for organizing magical Ashtanga retreats in the Balearic Islands and elsewhere.  She will ensure that our intensive runs smoothly.  You can email her with questions about logistics, accommodations, registrations, or anything else.
