Join Certified teacher Luke Jordan for this week of explorations into the many facets of Ashtanga Yoga on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Mallorca.
Each morning will be dedicated to personal instruction in the traditional ‘Mysore Style’ method.
In the afternoon sessions, we will explore the deeper meaning of Yoga through its sacred stories, chants, and philosophies and weave this together with the physical practice for a deeper understanding of yoga as a whole.
Each afternoon session will explore different facets of the underpinnings of yogic wisdom
Introduction to the history of Yoga philosophy.
This session will give an introductory overview of the place of Yoga within the whole system of Indian philosophy. Learn about the different philosophical systems, the main Hindu deities and the meaning of Om among much more!
The Samkhya system of philosophy.
WIthout understanding Samkhya we cannot hope to understand the meaning of Yoga. So what is Samkhya? This session will outline the profound and deep meaning of this relatively forgotten philosophical system.
Yoga in the Bhagavad Gita Part 1 – The Background
The Bhagavad Gita is part of the great Indian Epic – The Mahabharata. This session will give an introduction to the main characters of the Bhagavad Gita through some of the most entertaining and bewildering stories of the the Mahabharata.
Yoga in the Bhagavad Gita Part 2 – The Gita
Just what did Krishna teach Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra? Why, he taught him Yoga of course,! In this session you will find out the special teachings of Yoga that Krishna delivered.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Having learned the historical development of the the ideas of Yoga we are now ready to discover the Yoga Sutras and its main teachings.
The Power of Gayatri
The Gayatri Mantra is considered to be the embodiment of the whole of Hindu philosophy. Chanting it is said to give direct insight into its meaning. In this session we will not only learn the mythological story of its origins but also find out for ourselves the effects of its repetition.”

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Luke Jordan has been a dedicated student of Yoga for the last 20 years. As well as being a Certified teacher in the Ashtanga tradition, he holds a Masters degree in Indian philosophy and is a student of Vedic chanting. In sharing the Ashtanga method he draws on and integrates insights born from his study of the wider yoga tradition in its physical, philosophical and mythological aspects

This intensive will be held in a beautiful antique finca in Campo, in an atmosphere of exceptional quiet and seclusion. The finca is easy to reach, only 25 minutes by car from the International Airport of Palma (PMI) which receives direct flights from all over Europe throughout the summer months. The finca has spacious and fully appointed rooms, with a variety of different sleeping arrangements to insure your complete comfort.
The retreat will be orchestrated by Pilar de Miguel, founder and director of Balearic Retreats. As a Mallorca native and devoted Ashtangini, Pilar has developed a reputation for organizing magical Ashtanga retreats in the Balearic Islands and elsewhere.
